Google is now letting Google Voice users get notifications for missed calls. Users can get notified via their Google Voice inbox or they can opt to receive email notifications (or both). This would appear to be another step in Google bringing together your different means of communication. Google Voice already gives you a number that when called reaches you through all of your phones. Google recently rolled out the ability to make and receive calls from within Gmail.

Google has announced that it is now using OpenID for its signup process. Yahoo users can sign up for a Google Account with their existing email address. Google says that "a much larger number of people" complete the email verification process when OpenID is used. "Some websites use the OpenID standard so that users don't even need to type a password to sign in," says Tzvika Barenholz of Google's Internet Identity Team.

Yahoo users will now find it much easier to sign up for a Google account then before with the implementation of OpenID . With OpenID users can log in to multiple websites using just one existing account. It is an open, decentralized standard in which users can be authenticated to gain access to things like their various social media accounts with just one name. Adding another Apple-fighting feature to it's roster, Google will be launching its web-to-TV service this fall in the U.S. and worldwide next year. CEO Eric Schmidt announced at the IFA consumer electronics trade fair in Berlin, that the service will allow users the ability of full Internet browsing on their television sets and that Google will be working with content providers, though they doubt they will get any actual content from them. Earlier this year, an anonymous Samsung executive indicated that his (or her) company might build TVs based on Android. Now, although Samsung hasn't exactly released a list of shipping dates, an exec has at least gone on record saying that the possibility remains. According to Jun Yang and Pavel Alpeyev , Yoon Boo Keun, President of the Visual Display Division at Samsung, made the comment offstage at a forum in Seoul, South Korea.

The U.S. Department of Labor has launched a new website aimed at helping people find jobs. The site is called mySkills myFuture and it allows users to view local job postings, find training and education providers. The site offers job descriptions, salary information and common tasks related to a new occupation. "Americans deserve good jobs, and mySkills myFuture is one of the ways we're ensuring they can find and access them," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.

Although the official start of autumn isn't until the end of September, most people I know consider Labor Day weekend to mark the end of summer. When Google unveiled Google TV at Google I/O in May, the company said it would be out for the holidays. CEO Eric Schmidt is now saying more specifically, this autumn, according to Reuters . It's unclear whether this is ahead of the originally planned schedule or if it was always intended to be Autumn (as opposed to Winter), but Apple's release of Apple TV may provide a little motivation to get Google TV on the market as soon as possible.
