It doesn't really help anyone that Chrome for Mac isn't on a level with the regular version of Chrome; Mac fans must feel neglected, and Google's missing out on a lot of potential users. The gap between versions narrowed today, though, as a new Chrome for Mac beta with extensions and a few other upgrades was released. Bookmark sync is one of the fresh Chrome for Mac features - a big benefit for people who own multiple computers or sometimes work from home.

A majority of consumers react positively when companies respond to postings on social media sites, indicating the value of the channel as way to engage people in a dialogue while building a company's image, reputation and brand, according to a new study by The Center for Client Retention. The study found 55 percent of consumers felt positively when companies responded to a social media posting, with only 5 percent reacting negatively and 40 percent remaining neutral.

Google has reportedly acquired Aardvark, which operates at Vark.com , for around $50 million. Aardvark is a Q&A site. This is a space Ask.com says it is the number one brand for. Ask sees this move by Google as a direct challenge. "Bottom line, this move validates the space we have been #1 in for years," the company says. "It's Google coming after us and our mission." We spoke to Ask Networks President Scott Garrell, who says, "We welcome the challenge".

Yesterday, Iranian authorities enacted a ban on Gmail, saying they'd introduce a government-sponsored (and presumably government-monitored) email service to replace it. In January 2010, Americans conducted 15.2 billion core searches, with Google Sites accounting for 65.4 percent search market share. Microsoft Sites grabbed 11.3 percent market share, up 0.6 percentage points versus December.
