eMarketer points to a recent study from return path, which shows that email marketers may be having more trouble getting their emails delivered than they realize. According to the firm, over 20% of mailings in the US and Canada are not reaching their intended inboxes. We're talking about permission-based email marketing here. Earlier this week, a report from LegitScript.com and KnujOn stated that 89.7% of Bing's ads for online pharamacies were from illegally operating pharmacies. Microsoft's adCenter has responded by saying the report is true, but the number of violations is substantially lower. adCenter uses PharmacyChecker.com to verify pharmacy advertisers. PharmacyChecker.com is a competitor of LegitScript.com.

During a talk with the New York Times this week, David Vladeck, new head of the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, mentioned that violation of a consumer's "dignity" could be a factor in privacy related cases. "Now, Mr. Vladeck indicated, the commission would begin considering not just whether companies caused monetary harm, but whether they violated consumers' dignity.

Late last week we launched an updated version of the Google Analytics website. Some keen-eyed observers noticed that we updated our logo as well. This is consistent with a larger Google effort to update logos on all of our consumer and business products. Consumer product logos now generally have the word Google followed by a lower case word in blue. While business products like Google Analytics are in upper case with everything following Google in gray.

Fast-growing local search engine CitySquares has incorporated Facebook Connect . Now, you can use your Facebook account to sign into the site. When you do, you can invite Facebook friends to CitySquares and control which information from Facebook you want visible on the local site (name, hometown, birthday, etc.) The CitySquares teams plans further integration of Facebook Connect in the future.
