CAPTCHA’s Effect on Conversion Rates

Posted by chenry This post was originally in YOUmoz , and was promoted to the main blog because it provides great value and interest to our community. The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of SEOmoz, Inc. Personally I hate SPAM with a passion and Im sure many of you will agree that you hate it also. Jon Gosselin’s Bachelor Pad

by Claudine Zap Nothing quite says "I'm not with Kate Plus 8" than purchasing a two-bedroom apartment in cramped, crowded New York City. The other parental half of the hit reality show " Jon and Kate Plus 8 ," which follows a family with eight kids, has flown the coop. Since J and K announced their split (on TV, natch), daddy dearest seems to have recovered quite well, showing up in France with a 22-year-old girlfriend, Hailey Glassman .

New bot work continues at Bing

Back in December of 2008, we alerted you to the possibility that you might start seeing our new web crawler in your referrer logs. Given the recent excitement around the arrival of Bing, we wanted to take a moment to update you on the latest bot news.   As we said earlier, you will see the new Bing crawler user agent string listed as:   msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm) .   Note that we didn't change the bot's name for Bing.

And they're lucky to have each other - they are two peas in a pod. If you know one of them, you know what I'm talking about. It's said that you can sum up a friend in three words. Me = tall, nice,

Why All the Fuss about TechCrunch?

A few days ago a French Hacker calling himself Croll began releasing documents containing private financial data and personal information on employees he had stolen from Twitter's servers. To give an idea of how sensitive some of that data was, one document was the minutes from the meeting between Google and Twitter back in March. I can't imagine that either Google or Twitter would want that posted on the Web.
At the moment, there are exactly 725 alternatives available in the Google Docs Template Gallery, and that's a rather large number. But if you check back at this time next week, there are liable to be a whole lot more, because Google's now letting everyone submit templates. In an email to WebProNews, a Googler explained, "[W]e are opening up the template gallery so that anyone using Google Docs can create and submit a template for inclusion in this public catalog.

Facebook Adds New Security Measures

Facebook announced today that it has taken additional measures to help users whose accounts have been hacked or used to send spam. The company says the vast majority of its users have never experienced a security problem but it wants to give members new ways to take back control of their accounts if it does happen.

#FreePastryDay @Starbucks

Tuesday, July 21 marks #FreePastryDay @Starbucks . A coupon , which can be printed out, reads: "Not valid if photocopied, altered, or reproduced." Really?
It looks like the Republican National Committee didn't exactly do its homework on one of its latest efforts to peg the Obama administration as big spenders. By way of TechPresident (by way of Politico and leftie political site AmericaBlog ), the RNC launched an online contest aimed at young Republicans earlier this week, but the committee - amazingly - forgot that there are a whole lotta detractors out there ready to pounce.
One of our very own SEW experts, Tim Ash is featured on the cover of the summer edition of Online Strategy Magazine . In it, he talks about the short attention span of web users and how too much copy or flashy graphics can detract from conversion goals. These are things Tim has learned as a landing page consultant. And in your gut, you know he's right. You skim web pages. You abandon pages that are difficult to navigate easily.
