Posted by jennita Every now and then great conversations happen via Twitter - by conversations I mean when multiple people Tweet and "@" each other regarding the same topic. During the day when so many people are online, there is a lot of "noise" which can make it pretty difficult to keep up. However, if you've ever had the joy of being a part of one of the #nightcrew search marketing Twitter conversations, then you know some of the gems I'm talking about.
by Mike Krumboltz The shooting death of Steve McNair has sparked a tremendous amount of interest in the relationship between the former NFL quarterback and his supposed killer, Sahel Kazemi . Recent photos that surfaced on TMZ.com indicate that the two shared at least one vacation. The photos show McNair and Kazemi parasailing and relaxing on a boat. They look like any couple on vacation â?" there's nothing to indicate the shocking violence that would later come.

Jan vs. Marcia: The Grudge Continues

by Mike Krumboltz Jan Brady was always jealous of big sister Marcia  on "The Brady Bunch." Has the bitterness crossed over into real life? Fox News reports that Maureen McCormick , who played Marcia, feels that Eve Plumb (Jan) is upset over a joke Ms. McCormick made while promoting her memoir, "Here's the Story." Somebody call Alice to sort this out STAT! A few years ago, McCormick said that she and Eve had a "lesbian love affair.
Did you know that there is a whole mobile SEO and mobile Analytics industry on top or underneath the SEO and web analytics offerings we already got used to? I didn't until this week. I underestimated the mobile Internet and it's search by and large. I read about the iPhone impact on mobile Internet usage a few times and then forgot about it. Meanwhile others didn't. It's time to jump into mobile SEO now more than ever .
by Claudine Zap People may be focusing on their backyard plants during the recession, but they aren't shopping at high-end garden stores. That's the reality faced by the Northern California-based retailer Smith & Hawken , which is dying on the vine after 30 years in business. The chain is closing its doors. It originally opened as a place for serious gardenersâ?"selling tools with a lifetime guarantee . The basic garden-supply store was bought by a weed-killing manufacturer,
The only thing worse than a lost password is a stolen one. Google can't help you with the stolen one, but the company finds itself helping some of its millions of Gmail and other Google Web services users get back into their accounts through the Gmail Help Center . Today, Google is letting users recover passwords via text message , a helpful feature for when users can't find those passwords scrawled on paper, or buried in an Outlook or some other computer file.
Hitwise has released their search engine share data for the month of June 2009. This is significant because it's the first month that Microsoft's Bing.com has been around. Of course, it essentially took over for Live.com, so there are a few factors to look at. Now, normally we wouldn't look (or even get) the week-by-week data. But that is quite possibly the most significant for this particular month. As you can see, Bing saw growth every week in the month of June.

WordPress 2.8.1

WordPress 2.8.1 fixes many bugs and tightens security for plugin administration pages. Core Security Technologies notified us that admin pages added by certain plugins could be viewed by unprivileged users, resulting in information being leaked. Not all plugins are vulnerable to this problem, but we advise upgrading to 2.8.1 to be safe.

What else is new since 2.8?  Read through the highlights below, or  view all changes since 2.8

  • Certain themes were calling get_categories() in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. 2.8.1 works around this so these themes won’t have to change.
  • Dashboard memory usage is reduced.  Some people were running out of memory when loading the dashboard, resulting in an incomplete page.
  • The automatic upgrade no longer accidentally deletes files when cleaning up from a failed upgrade.
  • A problem where the rich text editor wasn’t being loaded due to compression issues has been worked around.
  • Extra security has been put in place to better protect you from plugins that do not do explicit permission checks.
  • Translation of role names fixed.
  • wp_page_menu() defaults to sorting by the user specified menu order rather than the page title.
  • Upload error messages are now correctly reported.
  • Autosave error experienced by some IE users is fixed.
  • Styling glitch in the plugin editor fixed.
  • SSH2 filesystem requirements updated.
  • Switched back to curl as the default transport.
  • Updated the translation library to avoid a problem with mbstring.func_overload.
  • Stricter inline style sanitization.
  • Stricter menu security.
  • Disabled code highlighting due to browser incompatibilities.
  • RTL layout fixes.
The biggest piece of hard news out of the " T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google Media Event " July 8 was that existing T-Mobile customers could begin pre-ordering the myTouch 3G , the second U.S. smartphone based on Google's Android open source operating system. See great pics of the gadget here on Eweek . Customers can order the device now through T-Mobile until July 28 to get it before the device becomes available nationally August 5.
According to Wikipedia (and they are unfailingly accurate, right?), had the Native American tribe " 'that accepted goods worth 60 guilders for the sale of Manhattan in 1626'invested the money in a Dutch bank at 6.5% interest, compounded annually, then in 2005 their investment would be worth over â?¬700 billion (around USD 1 trillion ), more than the assessed value of the real estate in all five boroughs of New York City .
