by Claudine Zap Serena and Venus Williams , you heard it here first: Watch your backs. Because Melanie Oudin is the one to watch. She's a very eager teen with nothing to lose. In fact, she's winning at Wimbledon . The 17-year-old is a native of Marietta, Georgia. But those are no peaches she's smashing across the net. Well since Bing came out I thought I would go there and get StepForth's listing. So I visited the Bing Local Listing Center and tried to add my company's local listing but I ran into an annoying wall a little ways into the process that was a real let down; they didn't bother to tell me that only the USA is supported at the moment.

Social Chemistry

Marketing strategies from the Social Networking Conference Good social media marketing always blurs the lines a bit between the personal and the professional. But the lines seemed extra blurry at the Social Networking Conference we attended in Los Angeles which, it turns out, is also the iDate 2009 Internet Dating Conference. Never mind the discomfort of submitting an expense report receipt that says "Internet Dating" on it.
Earlier this week I gave a presentation on the intersection of SEO, online PR and social media to a great mix of people (mostly agencies) at a SEMPO Arizona event. The SEO/PR/Social topic is an interesting mix due to the convergence that's been happening over the past 2-3 years and of course, because it's the essence of what we've been doing at TopRank . Forward thinking companies are investing in social media for a variety of reasons,
If you are creating your site using an open source solution like WordPress, Joomla, Pligg, or Drupal then you'll need to make sure that you keep it safe from hackers. Hackers like to solve password puzzles and gain access to places they aren't welcome. If you use a simple password that is easy to guess then you make yourself vulnerable to hackers and other malicious people. So how do you make your passwords harder to guess?
Search engine optimization (SEO) has three fundamental pillars upon which successful optimization campaigns are run. Like a three-legged stool, take one away, and the whole thing fails to work. The SEO pillars include: content (which we initially discussed in Are you content with your content? ), links (which we covered in Links: the good, the bad, and the ugly , Part 1 and Part 2 ), and last but not least, site architecture.

WordPress 2.8.1 Beta 2

2.8.1 Beta 2 is ready for testing.  Download it, check out the changes since beta 1, and review all tickets fixed in 2.8.1.  We especially suggest, recommend, and beg that plugin developers test their plugins against beta 2 and let us know of any issues.  Notable fixes in beta 2:

  • Translation of role names fixed
  • wp_page_menu() defaults to sorting by the user specified menu order rather than the page title
  • Upload error messages are now correctly reported
  • Autosave error experienced by some IE users is fixed
  • Styling glitch in the plugin editor fixed
  • SSH2 filesystem requirements updated
  • Switched back to curl as the default transport
  • Updated the translation library to avoid a problem with mbstring.func_overload

Thanks again for testing WordPress.
